GBP/EUR: Pound Perks Up On Post Brexit US - UK Trade Deal Talk

The pound-euro (GBP/EUR) exchange rate is rising to a 10-week high on Monday, the start of the first full trading week this year.

The pound is rising as risk sentiment stayed positive despite US–Venezuela tensions.

Sterling gained after Bank of England data showed UK consumer borrowing rose £2.08bn in November, the strongest increase in two years, lifting annual credit growth to 8.1%.

Mortgage approvals slipped slightly to 64,500. Political signals from PM Starmer on closer UK-EU alignment may support GBP.

The euro eased ahead of PMI and inflation data this week. Inflation is expected to show CPI at 2%, the ECB’s target level.
