The pound-euro (GBP/EUR) exchange rate is rising modestly on Friday and is set to gain 0.2% across the week.
The pound has been supported by hawkish comments from BoE policymaker Catherine Mann, who sees a strong case to keep interest rates on hold for a prolonged period, underscoring concerns at the central bank regarding persistent inflation.
UK CPI rose to 3.8% and is expected to rise to 4% in September.
The EUR is under pressure after weaker-than-expected German retail sales. Sales fell -1.5% MoM in July, after rising 1% in June. Expectations had been for a -0.4% fall.
German inflation data is due shortly and is expected to show CPI rose to 2.1% YoY up from 2%.
