GBP/EUR: Pound Higher As No Deal Brexit This Friday Avoided

The pound euro (GBP/EUR) exchange rate is holding steady above €1.15 after gains last week. The pair rose for a fifth straight week.

The euro eased despite hawkish ECB chatter, with ECB President Christine Lagarde saying on Friday that the central bank still has more work to do to bring inflation back towards 2%.

Today eurozone consumer confidence is in focus and is expected to improve slightly to -17 from -17.5.

The pound rose last week, boosted by expectations that the BoE will continue hiking interest rates. BoE Governor Andrew Bailey warned that the BoE would keep hiking as far as necessary.

UK inflation data is due later this week.
