The pair fell -0.06% in the previous session, settling on Wednesday at \u20ac1.1496. The pair traded between \u20ac1.1490 and \u20ac1.1513. At 13:30 UTC on Thursday, GBP\/EUR trades +0.03% at \u20ac1.1499.<\/p>\n<p>The pound is inching higher after stronger-than-forecast UK GDP data; however, gains are limited as Andrew Bailey dampens rate hike expectations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Office for National Statistics, the UK economy grew by 0.5% month-on-month in February, ahead of the 0.1% forecast and up from an upwardly revised 0.1% growth in January.<\/p>\n<p>The data suggests the UK economy was on a solid footing ahead of the Iran conflict. However, the International Monetary Fund warned this week that the UK could be among the hardest-hit G7 economies from the energy shock linked to the Middle East war, revising growth down to 0.8% for the year from 1.3% previously.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, further gains in the pound may be limited after BoE governor Andrew Bailey said the Bank of England is in no rush to raise interest rates, stressing that the duration of the war will be key to the inflation outlook in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The euro is weaker against both the pound and the US dollar despite inflation data confirming that price pressures rose to 2.6% year-on-year in March, up from 1.9% in February and marking the highest level since July 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The rise in inflation reflects higher energy prices from the Middle East conflict, feeding through into the data.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, minutes from the March 19 European Central Bank meeting show that policymakers are closely monitoring inflation pressures, which are tilted to the upside and economic growth risks are tilted to the downside.<\/p>\n<p>Policymakers will continue to follow a meeting-by-meeting approach relying on incoming data, while also keeping their options open.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pound (GBP) is rising modestly UK Q1 GDP rose to 0.5% MoM in February Euro (EUR) is falling despite hotter inflation Eurozone inflation jumped 2.6% YoY in March The Pound-Euro (GBP\/EUR) exchange rate is rising after losses yesterday.
