The pair rose 0.43% in the previous session, settling on Wednesday at \u20ac1.1551. It traded between \u20ac1.1482 and \u20ac1.1565. At 16:30 UTC on Thursday, GBP\/EUR trades -0.05% higher at \u20ac1.1545.<\/p>\n<p>The pound is edging modestly lower against both the euro and the U.S. dollar after climbing to a multi-year high versus the greenback earlier in the week. The UK economic calendar remains quiet, leaving investors focused on next week\u2019s Bank of England rate decision and developments on the domestic political front.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of England is expected to keep rates unchanged at 3.75%. The decision appears less contentious than in recent meetings, supported by the strongest private-sector activity since April 2024 and firmer inflation readings.<\/p>\n<p>UK politics remains a potential headwind for sterling. Tensions within the Labour Party resurfaced after Andy Burnham was blocked from joining Parliament, with party figures accusing Prime Minister Starmer of sidelining a potential leadership rival. Political uncertainty could weigh on the pound ahead of the February 26 by-election.<\/p>\n<p>The euro is edging higher against the pound and holding broadly steady against the U.S. dollar near the 1.1950 level. ECB policymakers expressed concern this week about the single currency&#8217;s strength, warning that further appreciation could weigh on inflation forecasts. Such comments have reinforced expectations that the ECB may need to consider another interest rate cut should the euro continue to strengthen.<\/p>\n<p>On the data front, eurozone economic sentiment improved in January, offering tentative encouragement for first-quarter growth.
