The pair fell 0.14% in the previous session, settling on Thursday at 154.57. On Friday at 21.30 UTC, USD\/JPY trades -0.01% at 154.55 and trades in a range of 153.61 to 154.77. The pair rose 0.73% across the week.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese yen weakened below 155 per US dollar for the first time since February, as the market fretted over the prospect of an expansionary fiscal policy and pushes back against expectations of a BoJ rate hike.<\/p>\n<p>The new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is considering spending around \u00a517 trillion or $110 billion in the first stimulus package. A supplementary budget to fund the package will likely be sized at around \u00a514 trillion, exceeding last year&#8217;s, in a move that may add to Japan\u2019s already huge public debt.<\/p>\n<p>These measures come as Takaichi has called for close coordination on policy with the BoJ, urging caution on rate hikes. The central bank is walking a tightrope between political pressures, economic data and market expectations.<\/p>\n<p>The US Dollar rose on Friday against its major peers. The US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, closed on Friday +0.14% at 99.30 but fell 0.3% across the week.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. dollar rose versus its major pairs on Friday but fell across the week despite the US government reopening on Thursday and Federal Reserve rate cut expectations fading.<\/p>\n<p>Fed speakers, including Schmid and Logan, both joined the chorus of Fed officials arguing against additional cuts. Expectations for a December rate cut have fallen from 94% last month to below 50%.<\/p>\n<p>While the US government has reopened, there is plenty of uncertainty over when and what data will be released. Officials have warned that October inflation and jobs data may never be released, leaving the Fed to fly blind into the December FOMC.
