The pair rose 0.18% in the previous session, settling on Friday at 147.67. On Monday at 14:30 UTC, USD\/JPY trades -0.30% at 147.26 and trades in a range of 147.23 to 147.65.<\/p>\n<p>The yen is gaining against the US dollar at the start of this week, with central bank meetings in focus.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of Japan will announce its interest rate decision on Friday. While the BOJ is not expected to hike interest rates given the ongoing political uncertainty, the central bank is expected to reiterate its intentions to hike rates if the economy and inflation follow forecasts.<\/p>\n<p>This would highlight the growing divergence between the BoJ and the Fed.<\/p>\n<p>The US dollar is falling across the board. The US dollar index, which measures the USD against a basket of peers, is falling 0.23% on Monday after gains and losses yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. dollar is falling on Monday as attention is firmly on this week&#8217;s FOMC rate decision. The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points following its series of data that highlights weakness in the jobs market.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, US jobless claims rose to the highest level in almost four years, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics also downwardly revised job creation through to March by 911,000, meaning the labour market was significantly weaker than initially thought.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns over a weakening labour market or sticky inflation overshadowed the news that the CPI rose to 2.9% year on year in August, up from 0.7% in July.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed is expected to reduce rates by 25 basis points.
