The pair was unchanged in the previous session, settling on Thursday at \u20ac1.1569. It traded between \u20ac1.1541 and \u20ac1.1584. At 10:00 UTC, GBP\/EUR trades -0.15% at \u20ac1.1549.<\/p>\n<p>A pound is falling on Friday amid growing concerns over the outlook for the UK economy. The latest data from the Office for National Statistics showed that the economy stalled in July with no GDP growth.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing, which accounts for 9% of the economy, shed a hefty 1.3% on the month. Meanwhile, the much larger services sector edged up 0.1% on the month, slightly ahead of expectations. UK GDP grew 0.4% month on month in June.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s data is likely the start of more restrained growth for the UK economy going forward. Sticky inflation and rising job losses are likely to stifle activity again in August.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the weak data, the Bank of England is not expected to cut interest rates at next week&#8217;s meeting, given that inflation is still significantly above the BoE 2% target level at 3.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the UK public&#8217;s expectations for inflation over the next five years rose in August to its highest level since May 2019 at 3.8%. Expectations for inflation in the next 12 months rose to a 2-year high of 3.6% up from 3.2% three months earlier. These figures support the BoE waiting to cut rates again.<\/p>\n<p>The euro is finding support for a second day following the ECB interest rate decision on Thursday, where the central bank left interest rates unchanged at 2% for a second straight meeting.<\/p>\n<p>With inflation in the region around the target 2% level, policymakers are in a wait-and-see mode to assess the impact of the US-EU trade deal on the economy before moving again on rates.<\/p>\n<p>Policymakers are split over whether the trade agreement, which sees 15% levies on EU imports into the US, will add inflationary pressures or slow growth in the eurozone.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech today, Finnish central bank chief Olli Rehn said that the ECB must be mindful of downside risks to inflation that could stem from falling energy prices and a stronger euro<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pound (GBP) is falling on Friday UK GDP was 0% MoM in July Euro (EUR) rises after the ECB left rates unchanged The ECB will wait to assess the impact of the EU-US trade deal The Pound-Euro (GBP\/EUR) exchange rate is falling after a flat finish yesterday.
