The pair fell 0.14% in the previous week, settling on Friday at \u20ac1.1533. It traded between \u20ac1.1492 and \u20ac1.1596. At 11:30, GBP\/EUR trades 0.2% at \u20ac1.1556.<\/p>\n<p>The pound is gaining; however, the upside could be limited given the difficult domestic outlook. Recent data showed that UK consumer sentiment fell for the first time in three months in June, reflecting rising concerns over job security.<\/p>\n<p>According to data from Deloitte, consumer confidence dropped by 2.6 percentage points to 10.4% in the second quarter, marking the lowest level since the first quarter of 2024. The full also marked the 1st decline since Q3 2022, and inflation peaked in double digits.<\/p>\n<p>The decline in consumer confidence reflects concerns over job security and income growth. Data released last week showed that unemployment unexpectedly rose to 4.7% in the three months to May, its highest level since 2021, and inflation ticked up to 3.6% in June, its highest level since January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, data from Rightmove shows that asking prices for newly advertised houses and apartments recorded their largest July fall in over 20 years this month. The number of available homes remains at a decade high, and summer sellers are pricing even more competitively to attract buying interest.<\/p>\n<p>The EUR is falling against the pound but rising against the US dollar, with the focus still on EU-US trade ahead of the August 1<sup>st<\/sup> deadline. The Financial Times reported that President Trump was planning to impose a minimum tariff of 15 to 20% in a deal with the EU, and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said he was confident that an agreement would be reached before the August 1st deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the ECB published its quarterly survey on the access to finance of enterprises, which showed that most eurozone firms remain optimistic on growth prospects despite headwinds from trade tensions.<\/p>\n<p>Later this week, the ECB will announce its interest rate decision, where it&#8217;s widely expected to leave rates unchanged.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pound (GBP) is rising after falling modestly last week UK consumer confidence falls to the lowest level since Q1 2024 Euro (EUR) is falling with EU-US trade in focus ECB is expected to leave rates unchanged this week The Pound-Euro (GBP\/EUR) exchange rate is rising after losses last week.
