At 19:30 UTC, USD\/JPY trades -0.43% lower at 148.84 and is in a range of 148.67 to 150.15.<\/p>\n<p>The Japanese yen initially fell after the Bank of Japan left interest rates unchanged at 0.5%, a 17-year high in line with expectations. Bank of Japan governor Ueda noted rising food costs and strong expected wage growth could help boost underlying inflation. However, he also noted that the timing of any further hikes would depend largely on the fallout from U.S. trade tariffs on the global economy.<\/p>\n<p>Ueda offered a few hints about the timing of the next rate hike, disappointing the market and pulling the yen lower. Data in early April and expectations of further trade tariffs from Trump could influence the Bank of Japan&#8217;s outlook. However, the yen rebounded following the Fed rate decision.<\/p>\n<p>The US Dollar is rising across the board. The US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, is +0.28% to 103.53 at the time of writing, after three days of losses.<\/p>\n<p>The US dollar is rising against its major peers after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady in the March meeting at 4.25% &#8211; 4.5%, as expected, and slowed the pace of balance sheet runoffs. The meeting came amid rising economic uncertainty owing to Trump&#8217;s trade tariffs, which resulted in an upward revision to inflation expectations and a downward revision to growth forecasts.<\/p>\n<p>This decision means the Fed extended its pause from the January meeting to allow policymakers time to assess the effects of Trump\u2019s trade tariff policies. The Fed\u2019s dot plot pointed to two 25 basis point rate cuts this year.
