The pair fell 0.14% in the previous session, settling on Monday at 157.98. At 22:30 UTC, USD\/JPY trades +0.29% higher at 158.04 and is in a range of 157.16 to 158.20.<\/p>\n<p>The yen is falling as safe-haven demand eases amid a recovery of risk assets. The yen has performed strongly over the last three days against the US dollar despite the latter reaching fresh two-year highs.<\/p>\n<p>The yen will continue to be influenced by speculation surrounding the Bank of Japan\u2019s interest rate decision which takes place in 10 days. The central bank could discuss whether to raise interest rates based on economic and price projections.<\/p>\n<p>The US Dollar is rising against the yen but falling against major peers. The US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, is down 0.71% to 109.18 at the time of writing, after rising 0.28% last week.<\/p>\n<p>The US dollar is falling after cooler than expected wholesale inflation and as investors look cautiously ahead to tomorrow&#8217;s consumer price inflation reading.<\/p>\n<p>Wholesale inflation, measured by the producer price index, Rose 3.3% year on year in December, below expectations of 3.4% and up from 3% in November. On a monthly basis, PPI rose 0.2% in December, softer than the 0.3% increase forecast.<\/p>\n<p>The data shows that the higher costs of goods were partially offset by stable services prices, suggesting that inflation remained in a downward trend after stalling in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>The data hasn&#8217;t changed the view that the Federal Reserve won&#8217;t be cutting rates again before the second half of 2025 owing to the resilient labour market and the threat of a revival in inflation with Trump\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n<p>Attention now turns to US CPI inflation which is expected to tick higher to 2.9%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Japanese Yen (JPY) is falling after 3-days of gains BoJ could hike rates this month The US Dollar (USD) falls against its major peers US PPI rises 3.3% vs 3.4% forecast The US dollar Japanese yen (USD\/JPY) exchange rate is rising, snapping a three-day losing run.
