The pair rose 1.12% in the previous week, settling on Friday at 154.34. At 15:30 UTC USD\/JPY trades 0.36% higher at 154.90 and is in a range of 1523.84 to 155.36.<\/p>\n<p>A Japanese yen his full name after vague comments from Bank of Japan governor Ueda. Well, the chief of the central bank reiterated that interest rate increases would likely come should the economy develop in line with the Bank of Japan&#8217;s outlook; he made no mention of the timing of such a hike. The lack of clear guidance disappointed yen traders.<\/p>\n<p>The move lower in the yen today follows strong gains on Friday, following stronger-than-expected GDP and industrial production and a market warning from Finance Minister Kato on possible interventions if the yen weakened too far and too fast.<\/p>\n<p>The US Dollar is rising against the en but falling against its major peers. The US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of major currencies, is falling to 106.56 at the time of writing, down 0.16%, after rising 1.6% last week.<\/p>\n<p>The US dollar is inching lower at the start of the new week but remains close to its yearly high as investors await more Fed speakers.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell warned that the Fed was in no rush to start cutting interest rates amid solid US growth, a resilient labor market, and inflation, which was still above the Fed&#8217;s 2% targets.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the market reined in fed rate cut expectations and is pricing in a 60% probability of a 25 basis point rate cut in December, down from 80% previously. The market also sees fewer fed rate cuts across the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>The US economic calendar is quiet today.
