The pair rose 0.22% in the previous session, settling on Wednesday at \u20ac1.2024 and trading in a range between \u20ac1.1974 and \u20ac1.2037. At 12:00 UTC, GBP\/EUR trades 0.17% at \u20ac1.2017.<\/p>\n<p>The pound is giving back some of yesterday\u2019s gains as the market waits cautiously for comments from Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey, scheduled to speak later today. Investors will be watching for clues about the central bank&#8217;s interest rates and inflation outlook.<\/p>\n<p>The Bank of England cut interest rates by 25 basis points in the November meeting. However, in light of the labour government budget, Andrew Bailey has been more cautious about cutting rates again too soon. Meanwhile, Bank of England chief economist Huw Pill warned earlier this week that wage growth was still too high to continue cutting rates.<\/p>\n<p>The market is pricing in just a 15% probability that the central bank will cut rates in the December meeting.<\/p>\n<p>There are no major economic calendar releases today. Attention will turn to UK retail sales figures, which are due to be released tomorrow and could provide further clues about the health of the UK consumer.<\/p>\n<p>The euro is holding steady against the pound but has fallen to a 2024 low against the US dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Eurozone GDP was confirmed at 0.4% in the third quarter, which is in line with the preliminary reading and is up from 0.2% growth in the second quarter of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Attention will now turn to the release of the minutes from the October European Central Bank meeting.
