{"id":101432,"date":"2020-06-24T13:02:32","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T17:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/news\/?p=101432"},"modified":"2020-06-24T13:10:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T17:10:19","slug":"103478-gbp-aud-bofa-calls-british-pound-an-emerging-market-currency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/news\/103478-gbp-aud-bofa-calls-british-pound-an-emerging-market-currency\/","title":{"rendered":"GBP\/AUD: BofA Calls British Pound an Emerging Market Currency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/gbp-pound-sterling-live-exchange-rate\/\">British pound<\/a> (GBP) is flat against the <a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/aud-australian-dollar-live-exchange-rate\/\">Australian dollar<\/a> (AUD) on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>US looking at $3.1 billion new tariffs on Europe<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Europe considering US travel ban when external border opens<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>RBNZ eyes extra monetary stimulus<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pound-Aussie exchange rate is -0.11% this week<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/gbp-to-aud-exchange-rate-today\/\">GBP\/AUD<\/a> was down by 22 pips (-0.11%) to 1.8894 as of 4pm GMT.<\/p>\n<p>The currency pair fluctuated between 1.80 and 1.81 in keeping with similar directionless trading yesterday when it rose just +0.11%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-button-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/gbp-to-aud-exchange-rate-today\/\" class=\"su-button su-button-style-flat button-internalbutton\" style=\"color:#ffffff;background-color:#f92658;border-color:#c81f47;border-radius:5px\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color:#ffffff;padding:0px 22px;font-size:17px;line-height:34px;border-color:#fb688b;border-radius:5px;text-shadow:none\"> Check real time GBP to AUD exchange rate<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>GBP: Pound acting more like EM currency than major<\/h2>\n<p>The pound-Aussie exchange rate has been headed overwhelmingly south lately, dropping in six of the last nine trading days.<\/p>\n<p>Bank of America has described the British pound as \u201can emerging market currency in all but name.\u201d The bank\u2019s currency analyst Kamal Sharma has contrasted key financial metrics for the way the pound trades and concludes it is more like that of an emerging market than part of the G10 group of major currencies. He takes particular note of higher implied volatility and lower liquidity \u2013 which mean investors expect larger price moves but the volume of trades has fallen.<\/p>\n<h2>AUD: Aussie pressured alongside Kiwi dollar after RBNZ<\/h2>\n<p>The Kiwi dollar fell after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) indicated more stimulus might be needed. The fall in the Kiwi acted a drag to the Aussie since the pair often move in sync. The RBNZ is already discussing the \u2018pros and cons of expanding its LSAP\u2019 (asset purchases) program and might look to use new tools such foreign asset purchases. The conclusion was that the New Zealand economy is improving but that \u2018risks are tilted to the downside\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to Germany but on a much smaller scale than the United States, Australia has seen a small resurgence of coronavirus cases. There have been double-digit increases in coronavirus cases for the past eight days, community transmission has been rising and the \u2018reproduction rate\u2019 has risen to 2.5.
