{"id":100657,"date":"2020-05-29T11:53:32","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T15:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/news\/?p=100657"},"modified":"2020-05-29T15:33:04","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T19:33:04","slug":"103310-gbp-eur-euro-jumps-on-rising-hopes-for-eurobonds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/news\/103310-gbp-eur-euro-jumps-on-rising-hopes-for-eurobonds\/","title":{"rendered":"GBP\/EUR: Euro Jumps on Rising Hopes for Eurobonds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/gbp-pound-sterling-live-exchange-rate\/\">GBP<\/a> is flat against the EUR on Friday.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sterling struck 2-month lows vs. the euro, before clawing back the losses<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The euro (EUR) has been surging on rising hopes for progress towards Eurobonds<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>EU\u2019s De Rynck comments on EU fisheries policy for Brexit &#8211;\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/gbp-to-eur-exchange-rate-today\/\">Real time exchange rates<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>GBP\/EUR was lower by 12 pips (+0.10%) to 1.1106 as of 3pm GMT.<\/p>\n<p>The currency pair sank quickly to 1.105 but later recovered the losses after a lack of follow through with some buying taking place ahead of the 1.10 round number.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-button-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/currencylive.com\/exchange-rate\/gbp-to-eur-exchange-rate-today\/\" class=\"su-button su-button-style-flat button-internalbutton\" style=\"color:#ffffff;background-color:#f92658;border-color:#c81f47;border-radius:5px\" target=\"_self\"><span style=\"color:#ffffff;padding:0px 22px;font-size:17px;line-height:34px;border-color:#fb688b;border-radius:5px;text-shadow:none\"> Check real time GBP to EUR exchange rate<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>GBP: Fisheries still a top dispute in post-Brexit talks<\/h2>\n<p>While Brexit is an ever-present weight around the neck of the British currency, it was mostly a matter of euro-strength that pulled the pound weaker on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>On the matter of the post-Brexit trade talks set to resume next week, the EU\u2019s De Rynck said \u201cIt is a tall order to get an agreement on fisheries by the deadline.\u201d Fishing waters have been a top political issue for both sides with the EU demanding continued unfettered access as part of a trade deal while the UK sees the issue as a matter of territorial sovereignty. De Rynck, who is a senior advisor to Chief Negotiator Barnier adde that there is \u201cno appetite on the EU side to revise the mandate on fisheries.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>EUR: Rising hope for Eurobonds (Coronabonds)<\/h2>\n<p>The euro was a standout winner across FX markets on Friday, making a decisive breakout beyond 1.10 to the dollar \u2013 which traders view as a possible sign of a new bullish trend in the exchange rate.<\/p>\n<p>Investors are taking the view that France, Germany and Senior politicians at an EU level can broker a compromise on the proposed \u20ac750 billion Recovery Fund that satisfies those countries most in need of help in the pandemic who don\u2019t want to take on more debt and the so-called Frugal counties that are concerned about wedding themselves to their less credit-worthy neighbours. The rise in the euro comes ahead of next week\u2019s ECB monetary policy decision, where expectations are building for an expansion of the PEPP.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GBP is flat against the EUR on Friday.
